On June 18, 2022, Caterer & Hotels Middle East awarded Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort the Zero Plastic Initiative of the Year award. We are excited to lead the way to zero plastic for resorts in the Middle East and to set the bar for hospitality in this important area.
Station-wide recycling initiatives have already seen a doubling of month-on-month recycling percentages in March, April and May, leading to 42% of all waste being diverted from landfill in the last period .
From a position of 6% of waste recycled in January to a realistic goal of 50% just six months later, it is a demonstration of the incredible commitment made at all levels of the company and by every Anantara customer.
With around 42% each, recyclable glass is, along with paper and cardboard, the main areas for waste reduction. 70 kg of plastic was successfully recycled in May and Anantara’s goal is to reduce the initial use of plastic as well. 600 single-use plastic bottles have already been removed from the resort’s gym and replaced with the installation of an on-site water filter as Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort aims to achieve its goal of providing a health club zero waste health and a zero waste kids club. Making Anantara-branded reusable bottles available for sale is also an ongoing project.
An Anantara policy of offering free water but charging for plastic bottles has been launched and is already being adopted by other hotels and resorts in Dubai.
Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort measured 6,066 kg of food waste in May and predicts an increased average reduction of 196 kg per day in the coming months following the installation of a liquid food composter and during summer occupancy.
During the holy month of Ramadan, Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort redistributed 3.6 tonnes of food as part of the 1 Billion Meals initiative which aims to provide food aid to the poor and undernourished in 50 countries around the world. worldwide.
